Formulation

Etymology

Tregear's proper name is derived from a slight alteration of a combination of two ancient Greek words.[3]

  • τρέλα (Trela) [four]/τρελός (Trelós): Mad (狂気)
  • περιέργεια (Periérgeia) テリエルギア: Curiosity (好奇心)

These two words are plumbing equipment of his personality and former occupation as a scientist. This breakdown of meaning is afterwards confirmed in the Ultraman Taiga Super Complete Works story Blueish Shadow.

Design

Ultraman Tregear was designed past Masayuki Gotoh, who was given the order to simply "make an evil Ultraman like Belial". Every bit the appearance was up to his ain imagination, Gotoh decided to use the themes of mask and restrains.[v] The pointed shoes are based on Ultraman's Blazon B suit, which were similarly pointed.[6]

Tregear Early Style has the same basic Color Timer every bit Ultraman and Ultraman Jack.[7]

Personality

Every bit a child, Tregear was an antisocial young male child with an affinity to dwell into subjects that are considered as off-limits by normal standards, hence his name significant "mad curiosity". This includes intruding a sacred tomb and studying the concept of darkness in the library. Despite his friendship with Taro, every bit time went on, the hardships he endured later on graduation and discovering Belial and Hikari's fall from light shattered his sense of justice, thus leading to his self-imposed exile from his sometime home world.

Ever since he absorbed Grimdo into his torso, Tregear turned into a sadistic and remorseless trickster who deceives people by offering to "fulfill their dreams". Be it as an Ultra or his human being form (Kirisaki), he prefers to watch the cease result of his actions from the sidelines later triggering a chain of events that pb to despair and suffering in others, rather than outright cause them. Some of his felonies can even be as petty as bravado a immature girl'due south balloon. Because of his diluted morality, he takes neither side and and would rather see everything be destroyed.

His rivalry with Taro and the Tri-Squad comes from his friendship with the old in their younger years. Taro was the outset person he befriended and that he treasured every moment in their school years dearly. Due to his failure to grab upward with Taro'south increasing popularity back in the Land of Light, Tregear decided that the only alternative option was to comprehend darkness afterwards seeing both lite and said element were but 2 sides of the same money. His extended rivalry to Taiga (and perhaps, the residue of the Tri-Squad) comes from the fact that the young Ultra was named after the item that he and Taro co-adult, the Taiga Spark. Tregear too calls him "son of Taro" instead of acknowledging his proper noun, which serves to further fuel Taiga's anger.

Yet for all of his smug beliefs, Tregear is not without a berserk push. Partly from his diluted sense of morality, Tregear reacted to the power of bonds (which the New Generation Heroes have ofttimes relied on) with utter disgust. In the presence of Taro, he drops his self attitude and becomes much more than serious in both attitude and fighting mode. His rage-breaking point takes to the extreme when Taiga was freed from the darkness through his bond with the Tri-Team and Hiroyuki. This cause Tregear to spend almost an entirety of Ultraman Taiga's second half to evangelize psychological torture towards Hiroyuki past threatening EGIS members and somewhen summoning Woola to swallow the unabridged planet. In a smaller level, he is mildly repulsive towards physical contact with aliens and immediately had to conjure a handkerchief to clean himself.

History

Past

When Tregear was young, he attended the same course as Taro. Tregear initially didn't recall much of him because he was pop for having famous parents. However, Taro approached him and they became friends. Out of curiosity, Tregear brought Taro to an off-limits area, locked behind bars. Tregear was unable to get in himself and manipulated Taro into breaking the 2 of them in. They then saw a pillar which played footage from the Ultimate Wars, and realized information technology was a tomb. They got in trouble at school the next day but Taro decided to stand and acknowledge their mistakes for the both of them, which Tregear secretly admired. Throughout their time in school, Taro became a symbol of light to Tregear, who continued to explore things such as night, darkness, loneliness, and fear, which he could but learn from the library, since the Land of Light had none of those. Tregear had written a verse form of Taro, though he thought little of information technology beyond seeing Tregear'southward talent for poetry.

At some point, they had an adventure on Planet Tika-Du (惑星ティカ=ドゥ Wakusei Tika=du ), where at that place were rumors of giant monsters. The rumors were confirmed to be true every bit they were attacked by monsters called Gagoze (ガゴゼ , Gagoze ) in a cavern, though they also discovered a dome-similar space. There, he discovered a sort of primordial soup of life and more importantly, indecipherable aboriginal cosmic writings, which intrigued Tregear. The monsters they fought released pink leech-like organisms that could digest the DNA of other lifeforms; Tregear immediately realized the threat if they were to assimilate them and leave the planet in the spaceship he and Taro arrived in. Having been defenseless by the brute, Tregear told Taro to save the villagers kickoff and not hesitate in such a critical moment. Taro, not wanting anyone to be sacrificed, used his Ultra Dynamite to instantly burn down away the giant monster and the substances within, and destroyed another one with his Strium Beam.

Afterward graduating from school, Taro went on to go a member of the Inter Galactic Defence, making it through their training regimen. Tregear followed him and suffered through a hellish government, simply because he didn't want to lose his friend. Unfortunately, he failed to make it in. Taro told him not to requite up and that he could contribute in his own way, encouraging him to join the Infinite Science Technology Bureau instead. Tregear agreed and was employed under Ultraman Hikari.

Tregear working at Space Scientific discipline Engineering Bureau

Hikari managed to see Tregear'due south potential when working on the Astral Particle Conversion Arrangement, a device that could transform an Ultraman'due south particles to be taken into other creatures for multiversal travel purposes. Hikari also saw something dangerous within him, like a blue flame quietly burning. To complete his research, Tregear had to become across the universe and become data from other Ultras, just his permission was denied every time. He wanted to talk to Hikari, but found out that he had resigned and left to Planet Arb, out of guilt over his Life-Forcefulness Solidification invention beingness the cause of many attacks on the Land of Calorie-free. Seeing that fifty-fifty someone honored with Star Marks could become distressed, a faint shadow loomed over Tregear.

TaroAndTregearTaigaSpark.png

One day, Taro returned from Planet Earth and told Tregear nearly his experiences, and that he had become ane of the Ultra Brothers. Taro told Tregear about his bonds with humans, though he had his doubts. Using Taro'due south advice to rely on bonds, Tregear managed to complete the machine he was working on, despite his skepticism on bonds. After miniaturizing the machine, Taro thought its name was too long. Tregear wanted to call it the Taro Spark, only Taro suggested that they name information technology for the next generation, giving it the proper noun Taiga Spark, which Tregear agreed to. Taro also decided on giving this proper noun to his child when he has one. Seeing Taro leave almost immediately hurt Tregear even more. He made another verse form, this time nigh him wallowing in the darkness.

Tregear, saddened by Taro'due south absence, found that the State of Light had little value to him. Every time they made better defenses, the enemy comes upwards with something else; the battles only escalate. Tregear finally understood Hikari'due south sorrow. He was offered the position of Deputy Managing director of the Space Scientific discipline Engineering Bureau, merely he instead resigned and left the State of Light. Disillusioned the idea of "light" being "justice" considering of the Land of Light's history - the Ultimate Wars, the Revolt of Belial, and recently, Hikari'due south ain fall to vengeance - he came to the conclusion that the Country of Calorie-free'south ideals were only deceptions, waving their fists and calling it "justice" but because they have the force to do so, effectively making their ethics and enemies existence two sides of the same money.

Tregear flew over to Planet Tutuola (惑星チュツオラ Wakusei Chutsuora ), which was full of rubbish that was managed by the Interstellar Brotherhood. He saw a pool of organic thing, which reminded him of something similar he saw when he went adventuring with Taro. Seeking to ease his loneliness, Tregear created a slug-like life form like to Namegon using the puddle of organic matter. He named it "Snark" (スナーク Sunāku ), which translated into "Chibisuke" on the Land of Light. Snark ate and grew hundreds of meters tall; Tregear was unable to stop information technology by force when it was going to attack a city there. Tregear had exploited a bug in its Dna to rearrange its genetic structure, forcibly turning information technology into diverse different kinds of creatures while it shrieked in pain. In the stop, Tregear shrunk Snark into a flower, which wilted and turned into grit. Out of guilt, Tregear left the planet. Some time later, Tregear learned that Taro had a son named Ultraman Taiga, which surprised him. Equally Taro went on with the path of low-cal, Tregear sank into darkness. While investigating the times before the Land of Light came about and spread their "light", Tregear wandered the Milky Mode and found the ruins of "chaos" from before the universe's creation.

"If your heart is weak, you'll fall into the darkness just like Belial did, even equally an Ultraman. Just like my old friend..."

―Taro subtly hinting Tregear to Taiga

"He appeared equally an Ultraman, just his heart is dark cold. He meddled with diverse universes, exploiting the weakness of the hearts of its inhabitants and led their stars to destruction."

―Ultraman R/B Novel description

Tregear receiving his powers from Grimdo

Over Tregear's long journey, "light" and "darkness" lost their meaning. Tregear managed to decipher the ancient writings he had encountered on Planet Tika-Du long ago. Venturing to Planet Borges (惑星ボルヘス Wakusei Boruhesu ), Tregear sought to open the "Abyss", which was sealed away to maintain the residual of the universe.
